Somali Muslim Socialist, Backed By Ilhan Omar, Demands Minneapolis Cops Defy ICE

In the political landscape of Minneapolis, socialist mayoral candidate Omar Fateh has made headlines with his firm stance against any collaboration between the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Fateh, who has received the endorsement of Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), articulated his position during a recent interaction with the press. When questioned about the potential involvement of federal law enforcement in the city, particularly in scenarios involving riots or looting, Fateh was unequivocal in his response.

According to The Post Millennial, a reporter inquired, Senator, you're on record saying that you would not, and correct me if I'm wrong, you would not support the Trump administration activating the National Guard in Minneapolis if they are sent here. If there's a federal ICE raid or some other related arrests, similar. And this say, sparks protests, riots, there's looting, would you support any kind of response by Minneapolis police?

Fateh replied, I don't believe there's any instance in which MPD should be collaborating with ICE, to answer your question, that's number one. And number two, what we've learned from our city, especially our city auditor, is that we need to strengthen our separation ordinance.

Fateh further elaborated on the need for transparency and communication between federal agencies and local authorities. He emphasized the importance of alerting the city council whenever federal agents, including ICE, are present in Minneapolis.

Anytime that there is any federal agents, including ICE coming to our city, it is important for our administration and for MPD to alert our city council so that they can disseminate that information out, and making sure that in no instance that MPD is collaborating with ICE, he stated.

Fateh's policy positions have drawn comparisons to those of Zohran Mamdani, a socialist candidate in New York, with both being associated with the Democratic Socialists of America. This alignment with far-left ideologies has sparked debate among Minneapolis residents, particularly those who advocate for traditional law enforcement practices and national security measures.

The endorsement from Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has further bolstered Fateh's campaign. During an interview with WCCO, Omar expressed her support, stating, "I am excited to announce that I will be supporting Sen. Fateh for mayor of Minneapolis.

Fateh, in turn, expressed his gratitude, highlighting the socio-economic disparities within the city. "I am really excited to have her support," he remarked. "Minneapolis seems to be a tale of two cities: one for the wealthy and well-connected and one for everyone else."

As the mayoral race unfolds, Fateh's candidacy and his views on law enforcement collaboration with federal agencies remain a focal point of discussion, reflecting broader national debates on immigration and public safety.
