No Magic For MAGA? Card Game Champion Hit With Bans After Backing Trump

Joe Brennan, a renowned player of the popular card game Magic: The Gathering, has recently found himself at the center of controversy due to his choice of attire: a "Make America Great Again" cap.

Brennan, a staunch supporter of President Trump, has faced numerous bans from stores and tournaments, allegedly due to his political leanings.

According to The Blaze, Brennan's banishment from an upcoming tournament was attributed to supposed behavioral issues, following anonymous complaints. However, many of his supporters have pointed to a different cause: the apparent distaste of other players for Brennan's MAGA hat.

Brennan, who has been a thorn in the side of liberals within the gaming community for years, has been labeled online as a "Nazi" who makes others "uncomfortable" with his hat. His reputation as one of the world's top players and a "poster child" for vintage Magic cards, all while proudly sporting his MAGA hat, has only added fuel to the fire.

In the wake of Brennan's ban, online posts calling for further restrictions on him have been rampant. He told Blaze News, "People [were] getting doxxed and extorted into giving money to charities that they may or may not have supported otherwise, but they were kind of pseudo-canceled."

Brennan found these reactions "egregious," expressing his discomfort with the fact that individuals not only engaged in such behavior but also felt comfortable bragging about it online.

Brennan, however, is no stranger to such bans. He revealed that these incidents are just the latest in a years-long battle. Despite the ongoing controversy, Brennan has remained steadfast in his belief that everyone should be allowed to express their political beliefs, whether at stores, public settings, or tournaments.

Brennan described the Magic card scene as akin to "the Seattle or the Portland" of hobby communities, filled with left-wing displays that go unchallenged. He told Blaze News, "Even last year at this tournament there was a player that had a play mat with Trump's bloody, severed head next to a guillotine on it."

Brennan's experiences extend beyond the gaming community. He has faced bans from brick-and-mortar stores simply for wearing his MAGA hat. He recounted, "Most of the time I would just walk into the store, and oftentimes it was stores that had known me for years, but they would say, 'Hey, either you have to leave,' without really any discussion, or some of them would say, 'You have to either take your hat off or leave.'"

Despite the adversity, Brennan has sought to find solutions rather than fuel the fire. In a surprising turn of events, he and Card Titan, the organizers of a tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, agreed to a joint statement. The statement emphasized that "political discrimination has no place" in the community and that "wearing a MAGA hat" is "not a legitimate reason to remove" someone from an event.

Brennan expressed his shock at Card Titan's agreement to the statement, noting it as the first step of its kind in their community. He said, "At this point I don't believe that Card Titan in any way was discriminating against me like past companies certainly have. But I do believe that the most likely scenario is probably that whoever made the underlying complaints, or whatever they were, I assume were just politically motivated."

Despite the ongoing controversy, Brennan remains hopeful for a more united future. He said, "Really, we need to come together, man. This toxicity and polarization is just crazy. I would ask anybody who's listening: Play out the current trajectory to its inevitable conclusion. And 10 years from now, is that a world you want to live in?"
