In a recent development that has sparked controversy, the wife of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, Rama Duwaji, expressed her sorrow over the death of Saleh al-Jafarawi, a Hamas influencer known for glorifying the October 7 terrorist attack.
Jafarawi's death came at the hands of fellow Palestinians following a peace agreement brokered by the Trump administration. Duwaji took to Instagram to share her grief, posting four broken heart emojis alongside the message, "Beloved Jafarawi."
As reported by The Post Millennial, Jafarawi was a contentious figure, frequently sharing videos and images from the Gaza conflict. He was accused of being a crisis actor, appearing in various roles across different video scenarios. His demise occurred amid internal clashes between Hamas and other Palestinian factions after the Israeli Defense Forces withdrew from certain areas of Gaza.
On October 7, Jafarawi was seen in videos celebrating the brutal attacks on Israelis by Hamas, actions that led many Israelis to view his death as a just outcome for someone who had become a propagandist for a terrorist organization. While some pro-Palestinian activists mourned his passing, others, including Israelis, welcomed it.
Jafarawi's death was documented on his social media account, where he was seen wearing a press vest. Online, he was nicknamed "Mr. FAFO," a moniker that emerged after he posted a video celebrating Israeli deaths, followed by another video of himself in tears when Israel retaliated. Eylon Levy, a former Israeli spokesperson, reflected on Jafarawi's influence, stating, "For the last two years, I have followed Hamas content creator Saleh Al-Jafrawi (Mr FAFO) with a mix of horror and admiration. I was engrossed. Mr FAFO had phenomenal energy, charisma, and creativity."
Levy further commented on Jafarawi's multifaceted persona, noting his ability to constantly reinvent himself to captivate audiences. "Always popping up in a different costume, once a patient then a radiologist, a jihadist then a foreign correspondent, a ham actor but always with panache and chutzpah," Levy observed.
Despite acknowledging Jafarawi's talents, Levy lamented that in another life, they might have been friends, had Jafarawi not chosen to use his skills to support a "genocidal terrorist army" responsible for the October 7 massacre. This incident underscores the complex and often polarizing nature of the ongoing conflict, highlighting the deep divisions and emotional responses it continues to evoke.
