In a recent episode of Morning Joe, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough urged Virginia attorney general candidate Jay Jones to withdraw from the race.
This call to action came after leaked text messages revealed Jones, a Democrat, fantasizing about the assassination of a Republican lawmaker. Scarborough stated, "He should probably be forced to drop out of the race," addressing the controversy that has shaken Virginia's political landscape.
According to Sean Hannity, the resurfaced texts from 2022 showed Jones expressing a desire for the demise of former Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his children, sparking outrage across party lines. The reaction to Scarborough's comments was swift, with conservatives highlighting that even MSNBC's response indicated the Democrats had overstepped.
The Republican Attorneys General Association remarked on X, "You know its serious when youve lost MSNBC." Commentator Erick Erickson noted, "Joe Scarborough has been pushing Democrats on crime and this sort of stuff. Hes a pretty big indicator that the Democrats have gone too far left and they might want to pay attention."
Andrew Kolvet of Turning Point USA added, "Even MSNBCs Joe Scarborough calls for Democrat Jay Jones to withdraw from the Virginia AG race Good for him."
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also reiterated his demand for Jones to exit the attorney general race, following the revelation of the controversial texts. On Fox & Friends, Youngkin declared, "This is beyond disqualifying.
The Democrats have to come together and figure out where their moral compass is, because they dont have one right now this is a ticket allowing someone to stay on who wants children to die, and I cant believe Virginians for a second will allow this to happen."
The situation underscores a broader concern about the direction of the Democratic Party, as even traditionally liberal voices express alarm over its current trajectory.
