Sen. Rick Scott Pushes To Honor Charlie KirkNew Bill Could Rename D.C. Street!

Senator Rick Scott of Florida has put forth a legislative proposal to rename a portion of H Street Northwest in Washington, D.C., as "Charlie Kirk Patriot Way."

This initiative, if passed, would mark the first instance of the nation's capital and a federal jurisdiction commemorating the late founder of Turning Point USA with a street name, following similar honors in Florida.

As reported by Breitbart, the Charlie Kirk Patriot Way Act was introduced with the support of Senators Mike Lee, Marsha Blackburn, Bernie Moreno, and Josh Hawley. The bill aims to officially designate the stretch of H Street Northwest between Connecticut Avenue and Vermont Avenue with the new name. It also mandates the installation of four street signs at prominent intersections, including Connecticut Avenue, Vermont Avenue, and both sides of 16th Street Northwest.

This legislative effort follows Senator Scott's previous success in the Senate, where a resolution was unanimously passed to declare October 14, 2025, as the National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk. This date would have marked Kirk's 32nd birthday. The resolution, approved on September 18, celebrates Kirk's contributions to "faith, free speech, and civic engagement," urging educational institutions and communities to observe the day with activities that promote liberty and civil discourse.

In announcing the new bill, Scott emphasized that the street naming serves as a tribute to Kirk's lifelong dedication to fostering debate and civic involvement. He stated that the designation would remind people of Kirk's commitment to "standing strong in what you believe: peacefully, purposefully, and proudly." Senator Blackburn praised Kirk as "a patriot whose unwavering dedication to promoting American values and free speech will not be forgotten." Meanwhile, Moreno highlighted Kirk's early vision of engaging young Americans in politics, noting how it evolved "into a movement that would change the course of our country."

The proposed street naming is part of a broader trend of national and local tributes to the conservative activist. In Florida, Lake County commissioners unanimously decided to rename a section of Wellness Way as "Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway," making it the first local government action to honor Kirk following his tragic assassination on September 10 during an event at Utah Valley University.

Additional commemorations have emerged nationwide, including New College of Florida's plans to erect a statue of Kirk on campus. Florida officials are also considering various other memorial designations. Furthermore, congressional resolutions and proposals, such as efforts to mint commemorative coins, have been introduced to preserve Kirk's enduring legacy.
