In a striking display of support, residents of Chicago were seen extending a warm welcome to U.S. Border Patrol agents, as depicted in a video circulating on social media.
The agents, who were deployed to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in apprehending criminal aliens, were met with handshakes, smiles, and fist bumps, a stark contrast to the hostility exhibited by anti-ICE activists.
According to Breitbart, the video follows the Border Patrol's Commander Op at Large, Chief Patrol Agent Gregory K. Bovino, as he navigates through various businesses in Chicago. The residents' reception seemed to endorse the Border Patrol's mission, part of President Donald Trump's Operation Midway Blitz. Since the operation's commencement in Chicago, federal law enforcement officials have detained hundreds of violent criminal aliens.
Among those apprehended was a Guatemalan illegal alien, whom Chief Bovino referred to as a "child rapist." Another was a Mexican national with a record of nine previous felony and misdemeanor arrests. One of his crimes gained national attention when he allegedly posed as a rideshare driver and sexually assaulted a Chicago woman after she left a nightclub. Despite his arrest, Chicago's Sanctuary City policies led to his release from detention two days later, as reported by Bovino.
However, not all residents of the Windy City are pleased with the presence of Border Patrol agents. A video posted on social media shows an unidentified resident expressing his disapproval by gesturing rudely at Border Patrol agents passing by on river boats. These riverine agents are patrolling the river to support ground-based operations in the downtown area.
In a disturbing turn of events, Chief Bovino became the target of a bounty threat allegedly posted by an illegal alien, purportedly a member of the Latin Kings gang. The bounty, posted on social media, offered a reward of $2,000 for Bovino's capture, or $10,000 to "take him down," as reported by Breitbart's John Binder.
In response to the threat, Bovino expressed his concern, stating that "violent gangs are feeling way too comfortable" in sanctuary cities like Chicago, where they believe they can threaten to kidnap and kill law enforcement officers.
Bovino's team of volunteer Border Patrol agents was dispatched to Chicago by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. They were sent to assist ICE and other federal agents and officers who have been violently assaulted by criminal aliens and radical leftists. Breitbart Texas reported that in a single week, ICE and Border Patrol agents were rammed in their vehicles and boxed in by organized attackers in three separate incidents.
These incidents highlight a "1000 percent spike" in attacks and a growing climate of lawlessness, as stated by DHS officials. This lawlessness is reportedly fueled by Illinois's sanctuary policies.
The escalating violence by radical leftists prompted President Donald Trump to deploy 450 members of the Texas National Guard to Chicago, Portland, and other sanctuary cities, as reported by Breitbart.
Democrat Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez voiced his concern, stating that the rhetoric from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is putting Chicago and the nation in a precarious position. He further argued that the violence by radical leftists underscores the necessity of the Texas National Guard deployment.
