In a bold and audacious move, Antifa militants in Portland have issued a public call for a coordinated "laser party" with the aim of blinding and potentially grounding U.S. military helicopters that patrol the city's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility.
This provocative act is a clear demonstration of the group's disregard for law enforcement and their willingness to resort to dangerous tactics.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, independent journalist Andy Ngo brought attention to the blog post that announced the event. The organizers are encouraging participants to gather at various locations across the city and "unleash your beam at the cop copter."
The announcement reads: "Every night for weeks we are forced to listen to the threatening rhythm of helicopter blades as the federal regime spies on us. The only limit power knows is our refusal to submit. This Saturday, October 11th, at 9pm you are invited to fight back. All you need is a laser. Leave home they can see where the laser is coming from. Go to a park, a field, or some other public place, and once the clock strikes 9 unleash your beam at the cop copter. Mask up. Coordinate with friends to throw a laser party! Lets take back the night together! It wont take many of us to ground the helicopters!"
The announcement further suggests that such acts of resistance, dispersed throughout the city, could cause significant disruption and be difficult to control. It also encourages actions that aim to undermine the enforcement capacity of their perceived enemies in simple and concrete ways.
The Portland Police, who also use aerial surveillance to target protests, are not exempt from this call to action. The announcement mentions that in 2020 and 2021, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) used a plane to target specific protesters for arrest, and the organizers are calling for these "eyes in the sky" to be blinded as well.
The announcement also references the 2019 uprising in Chile, where lasers were used to bring down a police drone. While acknowledging the risk of lasers being traced back to their source, the organizers believe that a large number of lasers pointed at an aircraft could make it unsafe for the aircraft to remain in the air long enough to pinpoint the source.
Last month, the FBI arrested four illegal aliens in a Portland residence after one of them aimed a laser at a Border Patrol helicopter. The FBI obtained a search warrant on the home associated with the individual who pointed the laser at the helicopter and other aircraft. FBI Director Kash Patel stated, FBI Portland just took down a residence of a suspect who allegedly targeted CBP officers all four individuals located in the house are in the U.S. illegally and now in custody. Come after law enforcement officers and this FBI will put you away.
