A tragic incident unfolded at Disneyland when a woman succumbed to a medical episode while on the Haunted Mansion ride, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Anaheim, California.
The unfortunate event occurred on Monday, with Matt Sutter from the Anaheim Police Department informing PEOPLE via email that Anaheim Fire & Rescue responded to the Disneyland Resort for an unresponsive woman in her 60s who had just finished riding the Haunted Mansion attraction.
He added that Disneyland security personnel provided CPR until paramedics arrived.
As reported by Breitbart, the woman was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Sutter noted that the incident appears to be an unfortunate medical episode, with no evidence suggesting any operational malfunction of the attraction, which resumed operations shortly thereafter.
The official cause of death remains undisclosed, pending an announcement from the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
This incident closely follows a similar tragedy involving a male rider on another moving attraction at the park. Disneyland representatives confirmed to PEOPLE that a guest required medical attention and was later hospitalized.
The Haunted Mansion, a slow-moving ride described by Disney as featuring mildly frightening scenes and friendly ghosts, is deemed safe for children. The ride, which first opened in 1969 in the New Orleans Square area, has not shown any signs of operational issues and continues to welcome visitors.
The recent events raise questions about the safety protocols in place at amusement parks, particularly for older visitors or those with pre-existing health conditions. While the attractions themselves are designed with safety in mind, the incidents underscore the importance of personal health assessments before engaging in such activities.
