U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has expanded its operations to the Chicago River, as part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) initiative, "Operation Midway Blitz."
This strategic move, initiated last month, has faced opposition from local Democratic leaders. However, the operation has already resulted in over 900 arrests, targeting individuals with significant criminal histories and outstanding charges.
According to Sean Hannity, CBP Commander Gregory Bovino emphasized the importance of patrolling all borders, stating, "Lakes and rivers are borders too. Wherever the borders at, thats where Border Patrol is gonna be."
Despite Chicago's distance from the southern border, its river system connects to Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes, placing it within a few hundred miles of the Canadian border, thus justifying the increased security measures.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a video highlighting the operation's achievements, sending a clear message to those residing in the country illegally. The video declared, "To every criminal illegal alien: Darkness is no longer your ally. We will find you."
This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to enforcing immigration laws and securing the nation's borders, even in areas traditionally considered far from border hotspots. The operation reflects a broader strategy to address illegal immigration and uphold the rule of law, aligning with conservative values of national security and law enforcement.
