Kyle Mullen made headlines over a year ago when he passed away during the Navys Hell Week.
The 24-year-old collapsed after completing the test that is said to push candidates to the extreme. Soon after, the commander was reprimanded. Now, hes been reassigned, and Mullens mother is furious.
According to Regina Mullen, Kyles mother, the commanders should be court-martialed. News Nation Now says, Its not enough. He just got transferred. He has his job () Hes alive, Mullen said. Hes got full benefits. Its a slap on the wrist. Its disgusting to me.
Mullen went on to say that the behavior of the commanders is criminal. According to News Nation Now, Its criminal, Mullen said. And those instructors, the three of them () were abusive. They kicked them. Theres testimony one was under investigation from hitting a boat and breaking a guys neck, yet hes an instructor for my son.
However, a report says that the candidate passed away from acute pneumonia and had an enlarged heart. His mother says that the reports dont tell the whole story.
The story helped shine a light on Hell Week, which takes place in Coronado, California. During the week, candidates must use combat tactics, underwater demolition, and survival skills. During the five-and-a-half-day Hell Week, they can sleep twice for two hours. At least half of the candidates that begin Hell Week dont finish.
Mullen says that the safety of the program needs to be adequately evaluated. She says theres lung damage, memory loss, and more due to the abuse of power these men have to deal with. She went on to say that medical attention isnt an option. Instead, men are given the choice to either die or quit.
