In a chilling development, cartel gunmen in Mexico have issued threats against U.
S. citizens residing in the Cabo San Lucas and San Jose regions.
The ominous warnings, directed at FBI Director Kash Patel and other officials from both the United States and Mexico, underscore the escalating involvement of the U.S. in the ongoing cartel turf war in Sinaloa and Baja California.
As reported by Breitbart, the alarming banners first appeared on Sunday in Baja California, purportedly signed by Los Chapitos. These messages ominously declare that, starting from that day, U.S. citizens in Mexico will be targeted in retaliation for recent laboratory raids and weapons confiscations.
The threats emerge amidst a backdrop of severe violence in several Mexican states, driven by a fierce territorial conflict between Los Chapitos and the Mayiza faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. This brutal feud erupted following the capture of Ismael El Mayo Zambada by Los Chapitos, who subsequently handed him over to U.S. authorities in Texas.
The perceived betrayal has fueled a relentless turf war, persisting for over 14 months and resulting in numerous murders and kidnappings.
The U.S. government has classified both factions of the Sinaloa Cartel as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, a designation made by the U.S. Department of State earlier this year. The conflict has extended its reach to Baja California and Baja California Sur, regions known for their popular beach resorts that attract many American tourists.
In a recent move, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on members of the Sinaloa Cartel and various businesses operating in Baja California. Among those sanctioned was a former mayor of Rosarito, who had since transitioned to a role as a federal legislator, sparking significant controversy.
The situation highlights the ongoing challenges posed by cartel violence and the complex dynamics at play in U.S.-Mexico relations. As the turf war continues to unfold, the safety of U.S. citizens in Mexico remains a pressing concern, with the potential for further escalation looming on the horizon.
