The Catholic Church, when operating at its zenith, has an unrivaled potential to effect positive change.
Regrettably, the actions of the two most recent popes have not reflected the Church at its finest.
According to the Western Journal, Pope Leo XIV's credibility as the head of the Catholic Church was severely undermined during the recent Raising Hope for Climate Justice Conference in Italy. The Pope participated in an unusual ceremony that bore a striking resemblance to nature worship, including the blessing of a block of ice.
The Pope was quoted saying, Lord of life, bless this water, in a video clip shared on social media.
The ceremony, which eerily mirrored the solemnity of a Catholic mass, saw climate activists offering pledges akin to prayers, while conference attendees, acting as congregants, sang refrains after each pledge.
One activist was heard pledging, We will raise hope by demanding that leaders act with courage, not delay, followed by a choir-like refrain from the attendees.
The ceremony also included the unfurling and waving of a blue tarp, symbolizing a river of hope. Adding to the spectacle, former Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, known for his controversial stance during the COVID-era, was among the line of tarp-wavers.
Prior to this event, it was uncertain whether Pope Leo XIV would continue the globalist approach of his predecessor. However, this spectacle, particularly following the Pope's contentious comments earlier in the week, removed all doubt.
The Pope had suggested that those opposing the death penalty and supporting open borders have as strong a claim to a pro-life position as those opposing abortion.
Furthermore, by aligning himself with climate activists, the Pope seems to have contradicted a fundamental Christian teaching. Romans 1:25-26 states, [B]ecause they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions.
The conservative Cardinal Robert Sarah from Guinea, who once warned Westerners about the dangers of cultural invasion, was a potential alternative for the papacy. He stated in a French-language interview, You are invaded, still, by other cultures, other peoples, which will progressively dominate you by their numbers and completely change your culture, your convictions, your values.
Above all, Pope Leo XIV's actions suggest a departure from the Church's primary mission. The Catholic Church's sole purpose is to guide people towards Jesus, and any deviation from this carries little significance.
The Pope's participation in a climate-focused ceremony, replete with pseudo-Catholic rituals aimed at appeasing the elite, risks alienating ordinary people worldwide who might otherwise have found solace and closeness to their Lord and Savior through the Church.
The actions of Pope Leo XIV, therefore, raise questions about the future direction of the Catholic Church and its commitment to its core mission. The Church's role in society and its ability to guide its followers towards their spiritual goals will be under scrutiny as it navigates these challenging times.
