UFC President Dana White recently shared insights into a brief exchange he had with President Barack Obama during President Donald Trump's inauguration earlier this year.
The interaction, which took place in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, had remained undisclosed until White's appearance on "60 Minutes" this past Sunday.
As reported by Fox News, CBS host Jon Wertheim questioned White about perceptions that the UFC has aligned itself politically. White responded, "I am an American citizen. Biden was my President. Trump is my President."
He recounted the moment at the inauguration, saying, "I was at the inauguration and I was sitting behind all of the ex-presidents and there was this stuff going around like, Danas mad-dogging President Obama. President Obama turned around, the only President that did, and shook my hand and said, Congratulations on all your success. And I said, Thank you very much Mr. President."
White emphasized the respect he holds for any sitting or former president, stating that if President Obama wanted to attend a UFC event, he would be welcomed with respect.
White's involvement in the political arena has been evident since he supported Trump during the 2016 campaign. His presence at the Republican National Convention and various rallies featuring Trump underscores his political engagement.
President Trump, known for his affinity for the sport, has attended numerous UFC events both during and after his presidency.
White's comments highlight the importance of respecting the office of the presidency, regardless of political affiliations, a sentiment that resonates with conservative values of patriotism and respect for national institutions.
