Fox News reports that Biden has made a decision regarding the US-Mexico border that Republicans and Democrats find unacceptable.
.
His decision is to send 1500 active-duty troops to the border even though Title 42 is due to expire in 90 days. Senator Jim Risch, R-Idado, stated, Title 42 ends next week, and everyone knows that means a huge surge at the border. The Biden admins solution: Send National Guard troops to do clerical work. Thats not going to cut it. We need more enforcement and stronger policies.
Pushback against the decision is coming from both sides. Some Democrats feel the decision signals a militarization that is unacceptable.
The White House announced on Tuesday that 1500 active-duty personnel would fill security gaps and provide military support but would not be working in any law enforcement capacity.
Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Chair Bob Menendez, D-N.J., said, The Biden administrations militarization of the border is unacceptable. Menendez added, There is already a humanitarian crisis in the Western Hemisphere, and deploying military personnel only signals that migrants are a threat that require our nations troops to contain. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. said the policy victimized the innocent. The right to seek asylum is a basic human right, protected under U.S. and international law. The victims of this policy will be the innocent - people who committed no crime other than daring to seek a better life in the United States of America.
Rep. Jim Jordan tweeted, Title 42 ends in NINE days. The last line of defense is to stop rampant illegal immigration. Joe Biden has no real plan. But his White House wants you to believe illegal immigration is down 90 percent. Unbelievable.
Rep. Ben Cline, R-VA, said, Sending 1500 troops wouldnt be necessary if Joe Biden ENFORCED our laws and SECURED the border.
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said, Heres an idea: Reimpose Title 42. Close the border.
Critics have also compared the decision that Biden is taking the same actions he criticized former President Trump for taking when he deployed active-duty troops to the border facing massive numbers of immigrants at the Mexican border.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked why Biden is sending troops to a supposedly secure border. Jean-Pierre told Fox News, More work can be done.
The decision to send troops comes on the heels of new immigration policies by the U.S. and Mexico to help decrease illegal border crossings.
