CNN Panel Goes Off The Rails As Conservative Host Slams Dems For Weaponizing Justice System

A recent CNN panel discussion erupted into a fiery exchange when conservative talk show host Ben Ferguson accused Democrats of exploiting the justice system to target their political adversaries.

The debate, which took place on "CNN NewsNight," centered on whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) possesses the authority to indict former FBI Director James Comey. Comey faces charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing justice.

Ferguson's remarks intensified the discussion as he accused the panelists of attempting to "overthrow the will of the people" through the discredited claims of Russian collusion with President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign.

As reported by the Daily Caller, Ferguson directly confronted Harvard University Fellow Charles Blow, stating, "You literally said the Steele dossier was user-generated at the FBI and then you weaponize it to go after Donald Trump to stage a coup against the sitting President of the United States of America. And you want to lecture me right now about right and wrong? Come on, man."

Ferguson further asserted, "The FBI said that Steele dossier was user-generated and you used it to go after him Im just gonna correct the record. You guys weaponized the government." Blow countered by accusing Ferguson of "destroying the record" and "muddying the waters," but Ferguson persisted in his claims of governmental weaponization by Democrats.

The Steele dossier, authored by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, has been debunked as a false narrative alleging collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia to secure his victory over Hillary Clinton.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's extensive investigation ultimately found no evidence of collusion involving Trump or his associates, such as Roger Stone and Michael Cohen.

Johanna Maska, who served in the Obama administration, argued that the Trump administration is establishing a "dangerous precedent" with Comey's indictment. Her frustration was palpable as she raised her voice, while Ferguson reiterated allegations of the Obama campaign spying on Trump's 2016 bid.

Maska retorted, "Okay, Russia tries to interfere in every election! Russia tries to interfere! So should we know what Russia is doing, yes, 100%." Ferguson responded by accusing Democrats of knowingly spreading false accusations against Trump regarding Russian collusion.

CNN host Abby Phillip intervened, informing Ferguson that he had "lost [his] chance" to respond further. The grand jury's indictment of Comey was initiated by White House aide Lindsey Halligan, who spearheaded the investigation into Comey's alleged perjury. The charges are linked to Comey's 2020 congressional testimony, where he denied authorizing leaks to the press.

However, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe previously stated that Comey had approved his disclosure of information related to an investigation into the Clinton Foundation to The Wall Street Journal.

This contentious debate underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the use of the justice system in political battles, with conservatives expressing concerns over perceived abuses of power and the implications for democratic processes.
