The Democrats are trying to force people to follow their agenda again, and this time they are trying to twist the arm of the Supreme Court.
If the Supreme Court doesnt develop the Code of Ethics they want, Democrats want to withhold funding.
Business Insider reports:
At the beginning of April, Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen the chair of a subcommittee in charge of the Supreme Courts budget suggested the court needed a code of ethics, adding that Congress needed to act.
According to Van Hollen, the Supreme Court doesnt have to be held accountable like the rest of the government. Thats why a group of senators wrote him a letter just days before the statement suggesting that $10 million be taken from the budget until the Supreme Court adopts a Code of Ethics.
The letter to Van Hollens subcommittee outlined that Congress can and should force the Supreme Court to comply. Per Business Insider, Congress has broad authority to compel the Supreme Court to institute these reforms, which would join other requirements already legislatively mandated. And Congresss appropriations power is one tool for achieving these changes, the group wrote in their letter, according to the Hill.
Coincidentally, this letter came after an investigation by ProPublica made shocking revelations about a long-time sitting Supreme Court Judge. The investigation claimed that Justice Clarence Thomas has been enjoying luxurious vacations with GOP Harlan Crow and not reporting it.
However, the GOP is fighting back. According to them, this huge budget deficit will impact security. Republican Ted Cruz quickly echoed those sentiments, saying that Congress was willing to risk the justices lives. This is all to get what they want.
However, Democrats did not accept the Republicans words and fired back, saying they didnt want to take money away from security. How do Democrats think the $10 million budget deficit will impact them?
