In a recent appearance on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show," Kamala Harris, who previously served as Vice President, launched a scathing critique of President Donald Trump.
She labeled him a "tyrant" due to his demands for concessions from various sectors, including law firms, universities, and entertainment companies. Harris argued that such actions undermine the very foundation of capitalism.
According to Breitbart, Harris expressed her disillusionment with the private sector, which she once believed would act as a safeguard for democracy. She remarked, "I am a lifelong public servant, and but Ive worked closely with the private sector over many years, and I always believed that if push came to shove, those titans of industry would be guardrails for our democracy, for the importance of sustaining democratic institutions."
She criticized these industry leaders for their silence, describing them as "feckless" and suggesting that their inaction is not due to personal financial risk. Harris emphasized, "Democracy sustains capitalism. Capitalism thrives in a democracy and right now we are dealing with, as I called him at my speech on the ellipse, a tyrant."
Harris further speculated on the motivations behind the industry's silence, suggesting fear of retaliation from Trump or a desire to curry favor with him. She stated, "These titans of industry are not speaking up. Perhaps it is because his threats and the way he has used the weight of the federal government to take out vengeance on his critics is something that they fear."
She also mentioned the possibility of these leaders seeking personal gain, such as a Nobel Prize nomination or favorable treatment in mergers and investigations. Harris urged these influential figures to uphold the integrity of their institutions and act as a check against what she perceives as Trump's misuse of federal power, driven by personal ego.
