In a moment that captured the world's attention, President Donald Trump made a triumphant return to the United Nations on Tuesday, launching a scathing critique of his predecessor and the global organization.
"Six years have passed since I last stood in this grand hall and addressed a world that was prosperous and at peace in my first term," Trump began his address, undeterred by a malfunctioning teleprompter. He lamented the shattering of the peace he had established on two continents by the guns of war, and the replacement of an era of calm and stability with one of the most significant crises of our time.
According to Newsmax, Trump also criticized the previous administration's four years of "weakness, lawlessness, and radicalism," which he claimed had plunged the nation into a cycle of recurring disasters. His remarks, delivered at the U.N. General Assembly, were met with keen interest by world leaders.
Trump proudly highlighted his achievement of resolving seven wars without the U.N.'s assistance, a feat he claimed was unprecedented. "It's never happened before," Trump declared. "It's never been anything like that. Very honored to have done it. It's too bad that I had to do these things instead of the United Nations doing them."
The President expressed his disappointment with the U.N.'s lack of involvement in these conflicts, stating, "And sadly, in all cases, the United Nations did not even try to help in any of them. I ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of each and every one of these countries, and never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help in finalizing the deal."
Trump also criticized the U.N. for its lack of respect for the U.S., as evidenced by a broken escalator and teleprompter. He questioned the purpose of the U.N., acknowledging its potential but criticizing its failure to live up to it. "The U.N. has such tremendous potential," Trump said.
"I've always said it. It has such tremendous, tremendous potential. But it's not even coming close to living up to that potential for the most part, at least for now."
The President praised his own accomplishments, including brokering trade deals, compelling NATO allies to increase defense spending, and the U.S.'s destruction of Iran's nuclear facilities in "Operation Midnight Hammer." He also highlighted his efforts to negotiate peace in conflicts from Gaza to Ukraine.
However, he rebuked the U.N. for its failure to play a role in these efforts, accusing it instead of funding migration that undermines Western nations.
Trump identified "uncontrolled migration" as the "number one political issue of our time," attributing it to the U.N.'s weakness. He warned, "Your countries are being ruined. The United Nations is funding an assault on western countries and their borders."
He urged member states to join him in creating "a safer, more prosperous world," emphasizing the importance of sovereign nations maintaining control of their borders and destinies.
Regarding Russia's war in Ukraine, Trump expressed disappointment in Vladimir Putin, stating that the conflict "is not making Russia look good" to the world. He also praised his efforts to disrupt drug trafficking from Latin America, stating, "Let's put it this way, people don't like taking big loads of drugs in boats anymore. There aren't too many boats that are traveling on the seas by Venezuela."
Trump's address to the U.N. was a bold critique of the organization's shortcomings and a call to action for member states. His remarks underscored his commitment to traditional values, limited government, and individual freedom, reflecting his conservative perspective.
His speech served as a reminder of the importance of strong leadership in navigating the complex challenges of our time.
