In a poignant interview with the New York Times, Erika Kirk, the CEO of Turning Point USA, reflected on the tragic loss of her husband, Charlie Kirk, the organization's founder.
Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, and his widow shared her thoughts on faith and resilience in the face of such a profound tragedy. "Gods plan is always greater than ours," she stated, underscoring her belief in divine providence despite the heartbreaking circumstances.
As reported by Breitbart, Erika Kirk's conversation with the Times took place just days before a tribute service for her husband at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The event is expected to draw a massive crowd, with hundreds of thousands reportedly seeking to attend the service in the 63,400-seat venue.
Erika Kirk spoke candidly about the strength she derives from scripture, particularly in the wake of the alleged assassination by Tyler Robinson, 22, at Utah Valley University. She described her experience of seeing "the Bible in such technicolor," and expressed a serene acceptance of God's will, even as she mourns the loss of her "soul mate" and "best friend."
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Erika Kirk turned to social media to share Psalm 46:1, which reads, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." The alleged assassin, Robinson, reportedly expressed his motivations to his transgender boyfriend, citing an intolerance for what he perceived as Charlie Kirk's "hatred."
Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray revealed that Robinson had inscribed messages on ammunition casings, including phrases associated with radical left-wing extremist Antifa circles.
Erika Kirk reiterated her belief that her husband's death was part of a divine plan, stating, "Im a strong believer that this was Gods plan. And its so clear-cut. It couldnt be more Charlie." She also recounted the moment she saw her husband's body, against the advice of a sheriff, describing a serene expression on his face that suggested to her that "Jesus rescued him" in his final moments.
"His eyes were semi-open," she recalled, "And he had this knowing, Mona Lisa-like half-smile. Like hed died happy. Like Jesus rescued him. The bullet came, he blinked, and he was in heaven."
Erika Kirk, who has been unanimously elected as Turning Point USAs CEO and Chair of the Board, is set to deliver remarks at the tribute service for her husband. Her leadership in the organization will undoubtedly be shaped by the legacy of Charlie Kirk and the values he championed.
