White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre seemed to want to try out a new one on the press.
This time, she says that the Biden Administration made it a priority to reopen schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. This announcement has led many conservatives political observers to wonder aloud what Jean-Pierre is talking about with this one.
Fox News reports that one reporter in the room mentioned the toll school lockdowns had on children nationwide. That same reporter asked if the White House had a serious plan for helping those children figure out how to catch up on the learning opportunities they missed because of the school lockdowns.
Jean-Pierre replied:
Look, as you just said, kids have lost so much in the pandemic, and This is why, when the President walked in, he made a priority to open schools, one of the things that was important to do to make sure that our kids, who have lost so much, were able to go back in-person school if they choose, have the resources that they needed to really succeed and move forward in their education.
She went on to say the following:
We saw that, unfortunately, the pandemic had an unfortunate effect on our young people, on our kids.
Conservatives on Twitter jumped on these comments and asked what the White House spokesperson could be talking about. They began commenting on her performance and seemed to rewrite history with those comments.
Political consultant Brittany Cohen pointed out the following:
In the 2020 campaign, the D talking point was that opening schools was reckless and deadly and they should stay closed.
and
They ran ads on it.
Many other conservative commentators, political analysts, and others all jumped on board with poking fun at the official White House messaging on this as well. They pointed out that the Biden Administration used to tout how they supposedly kept schools closed to keep children safe. They want to rewrite history to make it seem like Biden advocated for opening the schools back up.
Washington Free Beacon contributor Noah Pollak took issue with Jean-Pierres credibility as the White House Press Secretary. He tweeted:
An obvious point, but if a Republican press secretary lied as brazenly and intentionally as she does [on a daily] basis about absolutely everything, it would be all the press could talk about,
In addition to all of this, multiple Twitter users pointed out how multiple teachers unions pushed to keep the schools closed, and that seems to be what the Biden Administration went with.
