Yikes! Ocasio-Cortez Considering 2028 Presidential Bid

Written by Published

The 2028 presidential elections may seem a distant prospect, with the midterms still more than a year away.

However, in the current political climate, the race for the presidency appears to commence almost immediately after the conclusion of the preceding election. The Democratic Party is no exception to this trend, with potential candidates already jockeying for position for the 2028 run, even as the dust from the 2024 defeat is yet to settle.

According to RedState, the Democrats are likely to present a 2028 lineup that could be likened to a political version of Pickett's Charge. As a case in point, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic representative from New York, known for her far-left leanings, is reportedly considering a presidential bid in 2028.

The report on Friday revealed that Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent member of the socialist "Squad," is positioning herself for a higher office. She has been working on expanding her influence across the country and her home state, according to sources familiar with her operations. The decision she and her team face is whether to aim for the White House or the Senate.

In the Senate race, Ocasio-Cortez could potentially pose a challenge. There have been discussions about her possibly contesting against Senator Chuck Schumer, the current Senate Minority Leader. However, even securing a Senate seat in New York would be a more formidable task compared to her city district, which is known for its strong Democratic leanings.

However, Ocasio-Cortez's brand of democratic socialism may not resonate as strongly outside of the city. Her recent "Fighting Oligarchy" tour with Bernie Sanders, the veteran senator from Vermont, has arguably earned her more criticism than praise, particularly due to perceived hypocrisy over the use of private charter jets.

Additionally, her appearance at the Met Gala, donning a nearly $3,000 dress with "Tax the Rich" emblazoned across it, was seen by many as a striking display of irony.

There is speculation that Ocasio-Cortez could potentially run as a spoiler. Some allies reportedly believe that even if she doesn't think she could secure the nomination for President, she would run for the White House to ensure the left wing of the Democratic Party has a stake in the primary a strategy reminiscent of Sanders 2016 run.

However, it remains uncertain whether Ocasio-Cortez would be willing to embark on such a quixotic endeavor.

A few years ago, the idea of the Democrats selecting a far-left, inarticulate, and arguably not particularly astute "democratic socialist" as their presidential candidate would have seemed far-fetched. However, the nomination of Kamala Harris has shown that such a scenario is not entirely implausible.

While it seems unlikely that Ocasio-Cortez would secure the nomination, it is not entirely impossible. A presidential debate between Ocasio-Cortez and a conservative candidate like JD Vance would certainly be a spectacle, providing Vance with an opportunity to showcase his renowned, fourth-wall-breaking smirk.

So, to the Democratic Party, one can only say, should you choose to nominate Ocasio-Cortez for the 2028 presidential election, by all means, proceed!
