In a surprising turn of events, ABC has indefinitely suspended the airing of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".
This decision follows a misleading statement made by Kimmel regarding the alleged assassin of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Kimmel falsely claimed the accused was a supporter of President Donald Trump.
The host's suspension has been met with little sympathy, given his history of reveling in the professional misfortunes of others.
"Jimmy Kimmel has taken pleasure in the job losses of other television personalities. It seems the tables have turned," a source said.
In 2018, Kimmel was accused of misrepresenting a tweet by "Roseanne" star Roseanne Barr about Valerie Jarrett, a former senior advisor to Barack Obama. Kimmel portrayed Barr's tweet as racially insensitive, given Jarrett's African-American heritage. This incident led to the cancellation of Barr's sitcom reboot.
According to Western Journal, Kimmel said, Roseanne, youre not going to believe this, but she tweeted something outrageous. ABC decided to cancel their highest rated show Roseanne following a tweet in which Roseanne compared an African-American woman, a former advisor to President Obama to an ape, which did not sit well with ABC management or anyone with a brain, really.
Kimmel further mocked the situation by suggesting that ABC could continue the show without Barr, renaming it "Dan" after co-star John Goodman's character, Dan Connor.
However, it's worth noting that Barr's tweet did not explicitly compare Jarrett to an ape. Furthermore, at the time of the tweet, Barr was publicly grappling with mental health issues. While this doesn't excuse inappropriate comments, it does provide some context.
Fast forward to 2023, Kimmel was seen gloating over the firing of journalist and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Tucker couldnt be reached for comment. Hes already on a plane to Moscow to meet with his manager, Kimmel joked, insinuating that prominent conservatives are Russian assets. He went on to brand Carlson as one of the most despicable mother tuckers ever to appear on American television.
In response to Kimmel's suspension, Barr offered to fill in as host if ABC needed a replacement. The irony of the situation is not lost on observers, considering Kimmel's previous mockery of Barr's professional downfall.
Barr responded to California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom's concerns about the backlash the left is facing for celebrating Kirk's death, telling her followers, Today is better than my birthday.
Barr's delight at Kimmel's suspension is understandable. His monologues have often been criticized for embodying the condescending attitude of the leftist elite towards conservatives. If his departure is permanent, many believe he won't be missed.
The suspension of Kimmel's show serves as a reminder of the importance of accuracy and fairness in reporting, even in the realm of late-night comedy. It also underscores the potential consequences of using one's platform to spread misinformation or to mock others' misfortunes.
As the dust settles on this incident, it remains to be seen what the future holds for "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and its controversial host.
