In a poignant revelation, Christian author Frank Turek, who was present during the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, shared some deeply moving details on his podcast.
Turek, who will be addressing the congregation at Kirk's memorial service on Sunday, was asked by Kirk's wife, Erika, to recount the harrowing incident.
According to RedState, Turek, fighting back tears, narrated the chaotic moments that ensued after Kirk was shot. He, along with the security team, rushed Kirk to the hospital in an SUV.
Turek, who considered Kirk as his fourth son, explained his instinctive reaction to jump into the vehicle, "Charlie Kirk was literally like a son to me. I have three sons. He was, like, my fourth son. So when he was hit if your son got hit, what would you do? I got in the car, because if there was any way I could save him, I had to do something."
The atmosphere inside the SUV was frenzied, with Turek and the security team praying fervently while trying to administer first aid. Turek described the frantic drive to the hospital, "We drove four miles and some -- I don't know, it's four something miles all the way to the hospital with the door open. Were we're trying to stop the bleeding. And I'm yelling. 'Come on, Charlie. Come on. Come on.'"
Despite their desperate attempts to save him, Turek knew that Kirk had already passed on, "Now, Charlie wasn't there. His eyes were fixed. He wasn't looking at me; he was looking past me, right into eternity. He was with Jesus already. He was killed instantly and felt absolutely no pain."
Turek also clarified why the initial report from the hospital stated that Kirk was in critical condition, "Now, it is true when we got to the hospital and they started working on them right away, they did get a pulse back. But the shot was catastrophic, so 20 or 30 minutes later the surgeon came out and said he was dead."
In the aftermath of the assassination, Turek found himself at the center of online conspiracy theories, with some claiming that he was giving "signals" to the shooter. Turek was standing next to Kirk just before the shooting and was recording the speech on his phone, which he was livestreaming to his son and daughter-in-law.
The knowledge that Charlie Kirk did not suffer and that those present did everything within their power to save him offers a measure of comfort. It is hoped that divine solace will continue to be extended to those deeply affected by the events of that day and the profound loss they will carry for the rest of their lives.
