Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been officially removed from her case against President Donald Trump and his co-defendants.
This development follows the Georgia Supreme Court's decision on Tuesday to reject her appeal after a lower court had already disqualified her from the prosecution.
According to the Daily Caller, the disqualification stemmed from allegations that Willis improperly hired her romantic partner, Nathan Wade, to work on the case. Defense attorneys argued that she awarded him a lucrative contract, benefiting from their personal relationship, which included cruises and vacations.
Despite her claims of equal pay for all special prosecutors, it was reported that Wade received a higher rate than the state's top racketeering expert.
Willis' office has yet to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, Steve Sadow, President Trump's lead defense attorney in Georgia, expressed satisfaction with the decision. "The Georgia Supreme Court has correctly denied review of the Georgia Court of Appeals decision disqualifying DA Fani Willis and her office as prosecutors in the Fulton County RICO case," Sadow stated.
He further criticized Willis' conduct, describing it as "egregious" and asserting that her disqualification was warranted. Sadow emphasized that this decision should halt what he termed as "wrongful political, lawfare persecutions of the President."
The Georgia Court of Appeals had previously determined in December 2024 that the trial court "erred by failing to disqualify DA Willis and her office." Jeff Clark, a White House Office of Management and Budget official and one of the defendants in the case, announced, "Im pleased to announce that Fani Willis has now been permanently disqualified from prosecuting the indictment that she brought against President Trump, me, and many others."
He noted that the case will now be handled by the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia, which will appoint a replacement for Willis.
