Republican candidates are vying to unseat Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear in this year's highly anticipated off-year election race.
With decision day for Kentucky Republicans fasts approaching, a group of well-known Republicans is seeking high-profile endorsements, according to an exclusive report from Fox News.
The latest endorsement comes from Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who announced his support for former U.N. Ambassador Kelly Craft.
Craft is running against Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who has the backing of former President Donald Trump and Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles. The three are considered the front-runners in a crowded field of 12 GOP primary candidates.
Cruz praised Craft, stating that she is the candidate Kentuckians need as their governor to usher in a new generation of leadership. He also commended her for standing up to the Chinese Communist Party and negotiating the largest trade deal in American history. Craft announced that Cruz would join her for a string ofget-out-the-votee rallies in Louisville and Richmond on May 13, just days ahead of the May 16 primary.
According to the exclusive from Fox News, Craft expressed her gratitude for Cruz's support and stated that she is the only candidate not owned by special interest groups or the Washington, D.C., establishment. She added that it would be her honor to be the Republican nominee for Governor of Kentucky and finally retire the Beshear regime from Kentucky politics in November.
Cameron received Trump's endorsement before Craft entered the race last year. However, several people familiar with the race mulled over the possibility that Trump might shift his support to Craft, who served as his ambassador to Canada from 2017-2019 and as U.N. ambassador from 2019-2021 after the resignation of now-presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
In addition to Comer and Cruz, Craft also has the support of several Kentucky state legislators and other local officials. She has also been joined on the campaign trail by former University of Kentucky All-American swimmer Riley Gaines, a well-known critic of biological males competing in women's sports.
In addition to Trump, Cameron has the support of Susan B. Anthony, Pro-Life America, and several local law enforcement officials. Quarles, who has run a sizeable grassroots operation across many of the state's rural counties, has the support of a commanding portion of Kentucky's farmers and a whopping 235 local elected officials, including one-third of all county judge executives.
Craft, Cameron, and Quarles are considered the front-runners in the crowded field of 12 GOP primary candidates. The decision day for Kentucky Republicans is less than two weeks away, and the endorsements are beginning to pile up in this highly anticipated off-year election race, the report concluded.
