Someone Needs To Step In: Rep. Jasmine Crockett Compares ICE To Slave Patrols

In a recent appearance on MSNBC, Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, sparked controversy by equating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with "slave patrols" and asserting that White supremacists commit murders at a rate up to five times higher than illegal immigrants.

"As somebody who understands history, when I see ICE, I see slave patrols," Crockett remarked to host Ali Velshi.

According to Fox News, Crockett's comments come on the heels of a House hearing where she referred to Kayla Hamilton, a young woman tragically murdered by an illegal immigrant affiliated with MS-13, as a "random dead person."

During her interview with Velshi, Crockett continued to downplay the issue of migrant crime, stating, "None of us want to be unsafe. Yeah, but we're not looking at the facts. We're not look at the fact that immigrants, regardless of how many times you're going to cherry-pick and say well, there was this one immigrant that was here illegally, and they ended up killing this one person, Well, for every immigrant that you have an example of I'll raise you at least two to five White supremacist if not more right?"

The debate over immigration and crime has been a contentious issue, with ICE reporting in September 2024 that its docket included 13,000 convicted murderers and 1,845 individuals facing pending homicide charges. These figures encompass both domestic and international convictions. Additionally, ICE disclosed that 662,566 illegal immigrants on its docket possess a criminal history.

Crockett, however, insists that law enforcement should rely on "data and facts" to enhance public safety, reiterating her belief that policing in the United States has its roots in slave patrols.

"But as somebody who understands history, when I see slave patrols, now I never lived through the slave patrol period, but if you know the history of policing in this country, Then you understand that they were born out of slave patrols and now with the Supreme Court saying this, it's almost like you can just go grab them up," she stated.

The Supreme Court recently lifted restrictions on the Trump administration, allowing immigration raids in Los Angeles and permitting federal agents to use broad criteria, such as speaking Spanish, as justification for questioning individuals.

Crockett, known for her provocative statements, has previously clashed with Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, whom she once described as having a "bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body" following an insult directed at her eyelashes.
