Air Force General Kenneth Wilsbach has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed the retiring General David Allvin as the next Air Force Chief of Staff.
However, his candidacy has sparked controversy due to his longstanding support for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the military. This stance appears to be at odds with Defense Secretary Hegseth's objective of eliminating left-wing political influences from the armed forces.
According to Conservative Daily News, Wilsbach's tenure as Commander of the Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) was marked by his vocal endorsement of DEI principles. Following the death of George Floyd in 2020, Wilsbach participated in a video titled "Dialogue on Race," where he pledged to make "diversity and inclusion a reality in PACAF."
Furthermore, in a 2021 article, he emphasized that DEI was among his top priorities for the Air Force, stating, "When I took command, I laid out four priorities diversity, readiness, innovation, and lethality to focus our efforts."
His involvement in a virtual conference with PACAF, which featured speakers advocating for DEI, further underscores his commitment to these initiatives.
Defense Secretary Hegseth has made it a priority to eliminate left-wing political projects and personnel from the military and the Pentagon.
Will Thibeau, director of the American Military Project, expressed concerns about Wilsbach's potential appointment, stating, "The fight against decades of politicization must be more stringent and absolute to reclaim Americas military.
As such, DEI advocates like General Wilsbach cannot be allowed to serve as senior leaders in the Air Force. His brazen, public embrace of DEI is disqualifying, because it is clear diversity is something in which he wholeheartedly believes in and out of uniform."
The Pentagon has deferred to the Air Force for comment on the matter, but the Air Force has not yet responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation's request. As the debate over Wilsbach's candidacy unfolds, it raises broader questions about the role of DEI initiatives in the military and the balance between promoting diversity and maintaining a politically neutral armed force.
The outcome of this decision could have significant implications for the future direction of the Air Force and its leadership.
