The Department of War's (DOW) current human resources head, previously the Department of Defense (DOD), is under fire for her role in the military's Diversity and Inclusion program, the controversial COVID vaccine mandate, and a program that fast-tracked citizenship for noncitizen service members convicted of crimes and subsequently deported.
Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Samuel Shoemate has raised concerns about Stephanie Miller, the DOW Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Military Personnel Policy. According to Shoemate, Miller has been instrumental in shaping military policy over the past decade and a half, often to the detriment of military readiness and strength.
"Stephanie has been an advisor to, and architect of, every decision in the military over the last decade and a half that has harmed military readiness and overall military strength," Shoemate stated.
Miller's responsibilities extend to overseeing the human resource policies for over two million military personnel. Her previous roles include the DoD Director of Diversity and Inclusion Management,
Deputy Director for Navy Diversity, and Director, Navy Womens Policy. However, these roles have been omitted from her updated bio, which no longer mentions diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
As reported by Breitbart, Miller also served as a Defense Legislative Fellow for Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), a known associate of Hollywood Democrat donors, and one of only three Republican senators who voted against the confirmation of War Secretary Pete Hegseth in January.
Miller's influence extends to the Immigrant Military Members and Veterans Initiative (IMMVI), a program she developed that recruited 10,000 noncitizens annually to the United States military.
During a June 2022 hearing before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, Miller confirmed her oversight of the military's naturalization program and her collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to expedite the naturalization process for noncitizen servicemembers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the IMMVI's lack of transparency regarding victims of crimes committed by deported former service members has raised eyebrows. Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) questioned whether victims were notified when the U.S. government brought back and granted citizenship to these deported veterans. The IMMVIs director at DHS, Debra Rogers, could not provide a clear answer, leading to a tense exchange with McClintock.
In September 2022, Miller testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee that the DOW had no plans to eliminate the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, stating, "We strongly do believe that vaccine requirements significantly enhance the readiness of our force and diminish the threat of serious illness."
Shoemate, in conversation with Breitbart News, revealed that his sources within the Pentagon have informed him of Miller's resistance to the Trump DOW's objectives. He linked Miller's progressive policies to the purge of conservative-leaning service members who refused the experimental COVID vaccine.
"The DEI, the covid mandates, anything related to transgenderism, LGBTQ all of these things kind of went hand in hand," Shoemate explained. He further stated that Miller was part of an "effort to purge religious conservative elements out of the military."
Shoemate and a group of retired service members recently met with Hegseth, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Anthony Tata, and Senior Advisor Stuart Scheller to discuss the slow reinstatements of unvaccinated individuals. Despite the revelations about Miller's DEI activism, Shoemate remains confident in Hegseth's commitment to President Donald Trump's executive order to reinstate dismissed service members with full back pay and benefits.
Shoemate suggests the establishment of a task force dedicated to rooting out corruption as the way forward for a functional DOW that does not hinder Trump or Hegseths policy objectives.
"If the [DOW] is serious about tackling the issue of Marxism/DEI and the kind of ideology that has permeated throughout the ranks of the military, it must bring on a task force of people who will devote themselves to looking through the records of these elements and investigating the kind of rot and malfeasance that occurred over the last four and a half to five years in the military.
