The Biden administration officials have denied having any prior knowledge of the alleged assassination attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin by Ukraine overnight.
The Kremlin has accused Ukraine of carrying out the attack, but Kyiv has denied these allegations, stating that the attack was a pretext created by the Kremlin to escalate the ongoing war.
Two US officials have confirmed that senior Biden administration officials are working to confirm who conducted the attack, whether ordered by Kyiv, carried out by a pro-Ukraine group, or a false flag operation by the Kremlin.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed skepticism towards the Kremlin's claims, stating that he was taking comments from the Kremlin with a "large shaker of salt."
Meanwhile, Alina Polyakova, president and CEO of the Center for European Policy Analysis in Washington, DC, has dismissed the idea that the attack was an assassination attempt, stating that the Kremlin is a bunker and the drone used could only cause minimal damage.
Senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Mykhailo Polodyak, has also denied Ukraine's involvement in the drone attack, stating that such a strike would only lead to Moscow sending more missiles into Ukraine. "Why would we need this? Where is the logic in that?" he added.
The Biden administration officials are currently investigating the incident to confirm its authenticity and determine who was responsible for the attack.
