Airbnb Co-Founder Reveals Reason For Ditching Democrats And Backing Trump

Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia recently shared his decision to part ways with the Democratic Party, attributing his departure to the border crisis that unfolded under President Joe Biden's administration.

Speaking on "The Katie Miller Podcast," Gebbia expressed his growing concern over the border situation, which he began to scrutinize in 2021.

As reported by the Daily Caller, President Biden's tenure witnessed unprecedented levels of net migration, as highlighted by a December 2024 analysis from The New York Times. Gebbia recounted his initial curiosity about the border issue, stating, "I think it was early 2021, mid-2021, the activity at the border caught my attention and I just remember thinking, whats going on with this topic? It seems as if theres no border."

His quest for understanding led him to engage with Democratic colleagues across various levels of government, seeking clarity on the matter. However, Gebbia found the responses he received unsatisfactory, prompting him to seek further insight.

In his pursuit of answers, Gebbia reached out to Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, who connected him with experts on the subject. Reflecting on this experience,

Gebbia remarked, "And I remember like just being like, Holy cow, this is crazy. Like, this is not right. Like, this is a real problem. And theres no reason why we shouldnt be enforcing the laws of our country and our border." This revelation marked a turning point for Gebbia, who began to reassess his political affiliations.

Gebbia's concerns extended beyond the border issue, as he scrutinized other topics and ultimately concluded that he could no longer support a party advocating for open borders. "I sort of began to look at other topics and eventually came to the point where I dont think I can support a political party that wants to have an open border that lets in criminals and dangerous people into their country," he explained.

This stance underscores a broader conservative perspective that emphasizes the importance of border security and the enforcement of immigration laws.

Despite the Biden administration's efforts to manage the border, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that Border Patrol agents released no migrants into the U.S. interior for three consecutive months as of July. This contrasts sharply with the earlier months of Biden's presidency, during which tens of thousands of illegal migrants were released monthly.

In a move that aligns with his newfound political stance, Gebbia was appointed by President Trump as America's first chief design officer. This appointment followed an executive order to launch "America by Design," a national initiative aimed at enhancing the design of government interfaces to improve citizen experiences.

Gebbia's transition from a Democratic supporter to a key figure in a Trump-led initiative highlights a significant shift in his political journey, driven by a commitment to addressing pressing national issues such as border security.
