The conservative organization PragerU has made a bold move to ensure the preservation of traditional values in education by designing an assessment for educators seeking to teach in Oklahoma.
The test, which has sparked a wave of controversy, is part of the certification process for teachers relocating to the state. The initiative aims to prevent the infiltration of left-wing ideologies into the state's education system.
As reported by Breitbart News, the PragerU test has been met with significant backlash from leftists, who are alarmed by the influence a conservative organization could potentially wield in schools. However, the test is not politically charged. Instead, it poses questions grounded in basic facts and common sense.
In a strategic move, PragerU showcased its assessment in a full-page advertisement in the Sunday New York Times. The ad, titled Can You Pass This Test?, featured a sample question: Which chromosome pair determines biological sex in humans?
The multiple-choice question offered four potential answers: AA/BB, XX/XY, RH/AB, and XE/XQ. Another question asked, How many total U.S. senators are there? with 435, 535, 100, and 50 as possible responses.
The PragerU assessment, which is entirely multiple-choice, provides immediate feedback on the correctness of the selected answer. If a test-taker selects an incorrect answer, a message appears, prompting them to "try again." The test is also available to the public on PragerUs website.
Marissa Streit, PragerU CEO, defended the test in a conversation with Breitbart News. She stated, Every board of education and superintendent of public instruction sets expectations for teachers.
That is literally their job to reflect the standards their community and electorate demand. Streit added that objections to the test are either hypocritical or uninformed, as the test is merely a basic measure of competence and common sense.
Ryan Walters, Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction, echoed Streit's sentiments. He told Breitbart News, As Superintendent, it is my responsibility to protect Oklahomas children from the radical leftist ideology thats overtaken places like California and New York.
Walters asserted that teachers from states like California would need to pass the PragerU assessment before receiving certification in Oklahoma, vowing not to let the "Woke Marxist agenda" infiltrate Oklahoma schools.
PragerU's website describes the Teacher Qualification Test as a crucial tool for restoring integrity, responsibility, and truth to the teaching profession. The organization asserts that the test is a response to the increasing politicization of schools through programs like PRISM and the promotion of gender-affirming care, which they believe undermines parental authority and confuses young children.
The test covers core areas such as basic civics, reading comprehension, and recent Supreme Court decisions that uphold parental rights, constitutional freedoms, and the proper role of education in a free society. PragerU maintains that every teacher should understand these topics to serve students with honesty and respect for the nation's principles.
Breitbart News reported that PragerUs educational material has already been approved for use as curriculum in nine other states besides Oklahoma. This has led to an outcry from leftists each time another state announces it will begin providing the organizations resources that celebrate the rich history and values of the United States in schools.
Despite the controversy, PragerU remains steadfast in its mission to uphold traditional values in education.
