In the wake of any mass shooting, it is a common occurrence to witness Democrats and their mainstream media allies pointing fingers at Republicans and their staunch support for the Second Amendment, regardless of the alleged political affiliations of the suspect involved.
A particularly distasteful strategy that has been employed by Democrats in recent times is the mockery of expressions of sympathy and prayers for the victims and their families. This was evident in the immediate aftermath of the mass shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
According to RedState, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) remarked at a press conference, "And don't just say this is about 'thoughts and prayers,' right now. These kids were literally praying! It was the first week of school, they were in a church."
Former Biden-Harris White House press secretary and current MSNOW host, Jen Psaki, took the rhetoric a step further, posting on X: "Prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers does not end school shootings. prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers."
However, the Democrats' capacity to stoop even lower during times of national tragedy should not be underestimated. Case in point, Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) chose to mock people of faith by using a child as a shield to deflect criticism.
She quoted a 16-year-old Minneapolis public school student, Lydia, who wrote in an opinion piece published by the Star Tribune: Do not offer thoughts and prayers as you systematically enable such tragedies. Do not claim prayers are sufficient when children die as they pray. Do not pretend you do not understand.
This tactic of using a child's opinion as a shield was seen as particularly distasteful by many, with one observer noting: "Its not so much that the senator mocks worshippers following an attack on their community. Where it takes an exceptionally grotesque turn is that she does it from behind a child human shield, which I suppose is on-brand for the former VP of the states Planned Parenthood."
Emotions understandably run high in the aftermath of mass shootings. However, the Democrats' continued efforts to politicize these tragedies before the facts are fully known, or the victims' names are released, is seen by many as inappropriate.
This is especially the case when the act of Christian prayer - which is exactly what those children were doing - is being ridiculed and insulted. Meanwhile, many Democrats are calling for sympathy for the transgender community after it was revealed that the shooter was transgender.
This was also the case following the mass shooting at a Nashville Christian elementary school. Left-leaning individuals appeared more concerned about the potential impact on the transgender community than the effect on people of Christian faith.
The tragic events of Wednesday were made even more disturbing by the fact that the victims were praying Catholic schoolchildren and the shooter was transgender. This is a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges that society faces in addressing such horrific incidents.
