In a recent appearance on CNN's "The Arena," Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) expressed concerns over President Donald Trump's alleged intentions to deploy the National Guard in Chicago, likening it to a "Mussolini-style military march across the country.
".
Raskin's comments reflect a broader apprehension among some political figures regarding the President's approach to handling domestic issues.
As reported by Breitbart, Raskin articulated his belief that Governor Pritzker's stance resonated with states and cities nationwide, emphasizing a collective resistance to what he described as a "military invasion." He stated, "I think Donald Trump and Stephen Miller and Trumps handlers thought that he would conduct some kind of Mussolini-style military march across the country, subduing all the local populations, but its completely backfiring on them because its really unifying all of the local communities against Trump and against this outrageous authoritarianism."
Raskin highlighted instances in California and Washington, D.C., where attempts to exert federal control reportedly galvanized local opposition, strengthening calls for statehood and self-governance.
Raskin further noted the unifying effect of these actions on public officials in Chicago and Illinois, saying, "It clearly unified all of those public officials in Chicago, throughout Illinois. You saw the members of the congressional delegation, the senators, the attorney general, as well as the governor and the mayor. And so hes really unifying America around the principles of home rule, people can govern themselves."
This perspective underscores a growing sentiment among some that the President's strategies may inadvertently bolster local autonomy and resistance to federal overreach.
