In a surprising turn of events, Geraldo Rivera, a television personality known for his frequent criticisms of President Donald Trump, offered unexpected commendation for the President during a recent appearance on NewsNation.
Rivera, who has not shied away from voicing his disapproval of Trump in the past, appeared to have a change of heart, particularly regarding Trump's diplomatic efforts concerning the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Rivera expressed his admiration for Trump's initiative to pressure Russia into peace negotiations, stating, "I, again, am so proud of President Trump for making this effort." He further elaborated, "I really believe that hes trying and that the world will see that Russia, in some ways, is a paper tiger."
As reported by Western Journal, Rivera highlighted the demographic disparity between Russia and the collective populations of Europe and the United States, noting, "One hundred and thirty million Russians, 450 million Europeans, 330 million Americans, I think the math is on our side."
He emphasized that Russia's current state is not comparable to its former Soviet Union status and urged a reevaluation of Vladimir Putin's perceived threat, stating, "We have to stop thinking of Putin as being this boogie man, larger than life, that can keep us up at night."
Rivera's newfound admiration for Trump coincides with a surge in the President's approval ratings following a recent summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. An InsiderAdvantage poll revealed that Trump's approval rating had climbed to 54 percent, with only 44 percent disapproving and a mere two percent undecided.
Pollster Matt Towery noted, "Donald Trump now has an advantage among every age group other than the most senior of voters," and highlighted Trump's improved standing among African-American and Hispanic-Latino communities, as well as a near-record 64 percent approval among white voters. Towery concluded that Trump's approval was "surging upwards post-summit."
This shift in Rivera's stance raises questions about his motivations. Previously, Rivera had labeled Trump a "sore loser who cannot be trusted to honor the Constitution" and expressed his intention to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2024 election. In September 2022, he attributed the erosion of trust in elections to Trump. Yet, Rivera now appears to endorse Trump's peace initiatives.
The timing of Rivera's praise prompts speculation about whether he is attempting to realign himself with Trump or seeking to maintain relevance amid his fluctuating positions. Regardless of his intentions, Rivera's recent statements have sparked curiosity and debate over the authenticity of his newfound support for the President's foreign policy agenda.
