Watch: Mike Pence Slams Trump For Treating Dictators With 'Velvet Gloves!'

In a recent appearance on CNN's "State of the Union," Mike Pence, who served as Vice President under President Donald Trump, offered a critical assessment of Trump's diplomatic approach toward authoritarian leaders.

Pence suggested that Trump's strategy, which he described as a "velvet glove," lacked the necessary firmness, or "hammer," required in dealings with figures like Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During the interview, host Jake Tapper highlighted the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, noting the absence of a ceasefire agreement and the recent casualties among Ukrainians. Tapper pointed out that President Trump had initially indicated that severe consequences would follow if a ceasefire was not achieved.

However, post-summit, Trump appeared to have softened his stance, dropping the immediate ceasefire demand. Tapper questioned Pence on the perception that Trump might have been outmaneuvered by Putin, given the latter's demands for Ukraine to relinquish control of the Donbas region.

According to Breitbart, Pence responded by emphasizing his familiarity with Trump's diplomatic style, having worked closely with him for four years. "Well, look, I, you know, I served alongside the president for four years. I know his style in dealing with these dictators. Its the velvet glove. But I think the hammer needs to come, and it needs to come immediately," Pence remarked.

He urged for a more assertive approach, suggesting that Trump should collaborate with Senate Majority Leader John Thune to pass a sanctions bill aimed at crippling Russia's economy. Pence underscored the importance of a dual strategy that combines diplomatic engagement with a clear message of strength to Putin.

Pence further elaborated on the necessity of demonstrating power to deter Putin's ambitions. "Putin only understands strength. So while the President and his diplomatic team engage in this re-approach with Putin, and there seems to be interest in my judgment, Putin is not going to stop until hes stopped," he asserted.
