Hometown Trouble: New Poll Shows Kamala Harris Struggling In Californias 2028 Nomination Race

In the political landscape of the 2028 Democratic Primary, Kamala Harris, who previously served as Vice President, does not appear to be a frontrunner among voters.

An Emerson College poll released on Friday indicates that Harris, who was unsuccessful in her 2024 presidential bid, is trailing behind two prominent Democrats.

According to Breitbart, the poll reveals that California Governor Gavin Newsom is leading the Democratic primary with 23% support. He is followed by former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg at 17%, while Harris garners 11%, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stands at 9%.

The Emerson College Polling survey, conducted in California from August 4-5, 2025, involved 1,000 active registered voters, with a credibility interval akin to a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points. The Democratic Primary sample included 444 likely primary voters, with a credibility interval of +/- 4.6.

In May, there were reports of Senate Democrats expressing reservations about Harris potentially making another run for the presidency, as noted by Breitbart News.

Despite these concerns, the report also highlighted that Harris's 2024 running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is seemingly keeping his options open for a future presidential campaign.

Harris has recently dismissed the notion of running for the governorship of California in 2026. In a statement reported by Breitbart News in July, Harris reflected on the current state of the nation and contemplated the most effective way to continue her advocacy for the American people. She expressed her eagerness to reconnect with citizens and support the election of more Democrats, promising to share further details about her future plans.

Following her campaign experiences, Harris authored a memoir detailing her journey after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race. However, this announcement was met with skepticism and ridicule, as Breitbart News reported.

A social media user sarcastically remarked, "A book full of word salad. A must read, Im sure." This sentiment reflects the challenges Harris faces in reshaping her political narrative and regaining favor among voters.
