Actor Tim Robbins, best known for his role in "The Shawshank Redemption," has criticized the Democrats and mainstream media for what he calls "thuggish censorship."
In a recent Twitter post, Robbins praised the reporting of independent journalists Matt Taibbi, Michael Shellenberger, and Bari Weiss, who he says have exposed a massive censorship operation by the U.S. government to control the content on social media and silence dissenting voices.
He also accused the mainstream media of ignoring censorship in the United States and the erosion of personal freedoms.
Robbins specifically called out three Democrats: Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), and Rep. Stacey Plaskett (D-V.I.), for threatening Taibbi with prosecution and imprisonment.
He wrote, "What an embarrassing, shameful time for the Democrats and the 'free' press. You are losing any shred of credibility you had, you f***ing fools." Robbins also demanded the release of Julian Assange from prison.
In an interview with Variety, Robbins expressed his curiosity about what goes on in leaders' heads when they make morally compromising decisions for what they consider the greater good.
He believes that such decisions often involve censorship, lying, or deception and result in people getting hurt. Robbins wants to play a character that deals with this moral complexity and tries to understand where the human being is.
He believes that the past three and a half years have been filled with questionable choices made by leaders who are supposed to lead their countries.
Robbins has been critical of the government's response to the pandemic, calling it draconian. He believes the pandemic has turned Americans into "tribal, angry, vengeful people."
