The renowned actress Gina Carano and the entertainment conglomerate Disney have finally reached a settlement in the lawsuit filed by Carano, alleging wrongful termination and sex discrimination.
The lawsuit was initiated following her dismissal from the Lucasfilm series "The Mandalorian" due to social media posts that were deemed contentious.
In a statement released on Thursday, the 43-year-old actress expressed her satisfaction with the settlement, confirming that she and Disney/Lucasfilm had reached an agreement. "I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force," Carano stated, according to RedState.
Carano also expressed her profound gratitude towards Elon Musk, whom she has never met, for his financial support in her legal battle. "I want to extend my deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to Elon Musk, a man I've never met, who did this Good Samaritan deed for me in funding my lawsuit," she said. She further thanked her legal team at Schaerr|Jaffe for their guidance and wisdom throughout the lawsuit.
In her statement, Carano also expressed her gratitude to God and her supporters. "I am humbled and grateful to God for His love and grace in this outcome," she said. "I'd like to thank you all for your unrelenting support throughout my life and career; you've been the heartbeat that has kept my story alive."
Prior to the announcement of the settlement, Carano had made a cryptic post about the truth. " and the truth shall set you free," she wrote.
The settlement was also confirmed by a Lucasfilm spokesperson in a statement to The Wrap. "We have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies," the spokesperson said. The spokesperson also praised Carano's work ethic and respect for her colleagues.
Interestingly, the statement concluded with a hint at future collaborations with Carano, something she has been hoping for since her dismissal by Disney in 2021.
Carano's termination from Disney was a result of a social media post she made, warning about the dangers of viewing each other as evil based on beliefs. She used the example of the German people's disdain for the Jewish community after years of propaganda, which led to the Holocaust, to illustrate her point. This refusal to conform to certain ideologies put her in the crosshairs of the left, leading to calls for her dismissal.
Disney, perceived as a far-left company, seemed ready to terminate her and her post provided the reason. Many people identified this as a poor excuse, especially since her colleague, Pascal, had made a similar post not long before hers.
In 2024, Carano filed her wrongful termination suit against Disney, with Musk funding her legal expenses. Despite Disney's attempts to have the suit dismissed, the case was set to proceed with a trial date initially set for September 2025, but recently moved to early 2026.
