Democratic strategist Julian Epstein has issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of the Democratic Party's current trajectory, particularly highlighting the influence of left-wing socialists such as New York City's Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani and Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Epstein suggests that their growing prominence could lead to the "death" of the Democratic Party.
In a recent primary held on June 24, Mamdani emerged victorious, securing the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City. His win came at the expense of notable figures, including former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo.
As reported by Conservative Daily News, Epstein expressed his concerns to Harris Faulkner, describing the party's current direction as a "suicide march" due to its leadership's failure to confront antisemitism. "I remember a day when Democrats insisted that the Republican Party sever ties with David Duke because of his association with the [Ku Klux] Klan," Epstein remarked.
He further criticized the party's association with what he termed "a terrorist Nazi movement masquerading as a liberation movement," attributing this to a lack of "moral clarity" among its leaders.
Mamdani's stance on various issues has sparked controversy. During a June interview on "Meet the Press" with Kristen Welker, he repeatedly declined to denounce the phrase "globalize the intifada." Additionally, he made headlines by suggesting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would face arrest if he visited New York City and voiced support for the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement.
Mamdani's platform includes a range of progressive policies, such as the establishment of government-run grocery stores and increased taxation on predominantly white, affluent neighborhoods to fund initiatives like free child care and public transit.
Epstein drew historical parallels to emphasize his point, stating, "You know, the word Nazi which weve heard a lot of, Harris, means the national socialist party. The National Socialist Workers Party of Germany in the 1930s," he explained. He argued that the socialist movement has a "long history of antisemitism," and expressed concern that those echoing the rhetoric of Hamas may either lack understanding or be influenced by foreign funding. He warned that this could steer the party toward a perilous path, potentially leading to its demise.
The situation has been further exacerbated by recent events. Following the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas, which resulted in over 1,200 casualties in Israel, pro-Hamas demonstrations erupted on several college campuses. These protests included anti-Israel slogans with implications of eradicating Israel and instances where Jewish students were obstructed from accessing parts of the campus.
The Democratic Party's current challenges underscore the broader ideological divide within its ranks. As the party grapples with these internal tensions, questions remain about its ability to reconcile differing viewpoints and maintain a cohesive platform that resonates with a broad spectrum of voters.
