Watch: Eric Holder Unleashes Wild Theory About Texas Redistricting

Written by Published

Eric Holder, the former Attorney General, recently voiced concerns regarding the Texas redistricting initiative, suggesting it could potentially influence the certification of the 2028 presidential election.

However, his remarks overlooked a significant constitutional detail. The Democratic members of the Texas state Legislature took drastic measures by fleeing to Illinois and New York. Their aim was to disrupt a special legislative session focused on redistricting, which could potentially secure up to five additional seats for Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Holder shared his perspective on "The Weeknight" with co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend, emphasizing that the ramifications of Texas' redistricting extend beyond the 2026 midterm elections.

According to the Daily Caller, Holder stated, This is not a Texas problem. Yeah, this the focus of this issue is Texas. But this is a national problem. And you got to understand, if somehow, some way Republicans are able to hold on to the House next year, and in spite of the fact that I think they should lose because of, you know, the big budget bill that, you know, took health care away from millions of people, they gave tax breaks to billionaires who didnt need it.

He further elaborated, If they were somehow able to hold on to the House in 2026, that is the House of Representatives that would have to certify who won the presidential election come 2028, 2029.

Holder's apprehensions highlight a broader concern about the potential impact of gerrymandering on the integrity of the electoral process. He warned, Now, if you want to play with fire and thats what were doing here, you put in a bunch of partisan hacks who are not supposed to be in the House, who are there because of gerrymandering and a whole range of other things that Republicans are doing, and then put at risk the possibility that that body would not certify who the next president was. That is a thats why this is a national problem.

The certification of the 2028 presidential election is scheduled for January 6, 2029, by the newly elected members of the House of Representatives, who will assume office on January 3, 2029, as stipulated by the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

Meanwhile, New York has also redrawn its congressional districts following the 2022 midterm elections, creating a map that jeopardizes the positions of up to six of the 11 Republicans elected to the House. This redistricting effort underscores the ongoing debate over the balance of power and the role of gerrymandering in shaping the political landscape.
