Fox News suffered an immediate rebuke for getting rid of its star, Tucker Carlson.
The Daily Caller reports that Carlsons departure was unexpected and a major earthquake for the entire network. Fox News might regret its decision after it suffered a significant blow to its ratings immediately following the decision to get rid of Tucker Carlson at his 8 PM time slot.
Carlsons replacement host, Brian Kilmeade, did okay on Mondays first day on the show. On that show, he netted 2.59 million viewers. However, that number fell off a cliff. On Wednesday, Kilmeade received only 1.3 million viewers. That was even less than MSNBC host Chris Hayes with 1.38 million viewers in the same time slot. Fox News is certainly not used to trailing MSNBC in the rating battle at any time, which is likely very alarming for Fox News.
Fox News managed 3.25 million viewers in the same time slot when they had Tucker Carlson at the helm. His show was the second-highest-rated cable news show behind only The Five, also on Fox News.
Fox News lost in the 25-54 age demographic for 8 PM cable news shows after Carlsons ouster. MSNBC got 167,000 with that demographic then, and CNN generated 139,000 viewers then. Fox News only pulled in 124,000 viewers at that same time slot with Kilmeade hosting.
The Daily Caller reports that these numbers are Fox News worst non-holiday performance in the ratings since 9/11.
In the meantime, a significant competitor to Fox News, Newsmax, has seen an increase in viewership. Eric Bollings 8 PM Newsmax show had 562,000 viewers this week. That compares with just 146,000 viewers the week prior.
In the meantime, Tucker Carlson released a video discussing his removal from the network. His video generated a total of 62.7 million views. That is more views than all of the Fox News shows put together for that same week.
