".
This announcement comes in the wake of the WWE legend's passing on July 24 at the age of 71. DeSantis has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff across the state to honor the memory of the man who captivated audiences worldwide with his larger-than-life persona.
According to the Daily Caller, DeSantis issued a statement on Friday, emphasizing the significance of Hulk Hogan's legacy. "To commemorate his life and legacy, I hereby declare August 1, 2025, as Hulk Hogan Day in Florida, and direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, and at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Pinellas County from sunrise to sunset on Friday, August 1, 2025," DeSantis stated.
This gesture underscores the profound impact Hogan had not only on the wrestling world but also on the state he called home.
Hogan, born Terry Bollea in Augusta, Georgia, moved to Tampa at a young age, where he began his illustrious wrestling career in 1977. Rising to fame with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice, first in 2005 and again in 2020 as part of the New World Order.
DeSantis remarked on Hogan's enduring influence, noting, "His larger-than-life personality will be missed, as the Hulkster was an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s as well as today. He was a true Floridian through and through."
The wrestling legend's cause of death was determined to be acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, and was classified as natural. The Pinellas County Forensic Science Center revealed that Hogan also suffered from chronic lymphocytic leukemia and atrial fibrillation, though he had never publicly disclosed any cancer diagnosis.
As fans and admirers reflect on his legacy, Hulk Hogan's contributions to the world of professional wrestling and his indelible mark on popular culture remain undeniable.
