On Friday, a Dutch court banned a man from donating more sperm.
Breitbart reports, A judge at The Hague District Court ordered a halt to an injunction brought by the mother of a child conceived with the donors sperm and a foundation representing other parents..
Eva is one of many mothers that was happy about the decision. Thats because the man has fathered at least 550 children in the Netherlands and other countries. He also intentionally misled parents about how many children he fathered.
The mother says she hopes it spurs bans on mass donations and other countries follow suit with a ban.
According to regulations, men can have 25 children with 12 mothers. The donor lied about his previous history to father more children. However, legislation is already in place that is supposed to prevent this.
Breitbart states, The donor, identified as Jonathan M. under Dutch privacy guidelines, provided sperm to several Dutch fertility clinics and a clinic in Denmark as well as to many other people he connected with through advertisements and online forums, the court said in its written judgment.
The donor said he only wanted to help people who could not have children. However, the court points out that the children fathered now have a massive kinship network with at least a hundred half-siblings. He says the children did not ask for that, which can be psychologically damaging.
Thats why the court has banned him from any further donations. If he does not abide by the ban, hell be ordered to pay the equivalent of $110,000 per case.
I could not imagine the consequences of this. Imagine if the children live in the same communities. Due to privacy reasons, the names and locations of the children, or their parents, are not being released. Neither article mentions what other countries the children live in.
