Madonna was once the controversy queen, and now shes making headlines again.
Her latest photoshoot celebrated religion and her interpretation of Christianity. She was featured in Vanity Fairs Icon Issue for the European Edition dressed as Our Lady of Sorrows.
Our Lady of Sorrows is a Catholic devotional showing Marry with seven swords piercing her heart. However, thats not quite what people are having an issue with. Its whats inside the magazine.
According to The Daily Wire, Inside the photo spread, Madonna can also be seen reenacting the famous portrayal of the Last Supper, but in her version, shes surrounded by scantily clad women and holding up bread in an apparent mimicry of the Christian tradition of the holy Eucharist.
Madonna was raised Catholic and has not hesitated to speak against the church. According to her, the church criticized her, but she wasnt the problem. Madonna said, I quickly realized they were the problem, not me. They were the problem because they did not understand that my work as an artist united people and gave them freedom of expression and unity. It was the mirror of Jesus teachings.
A statement from the Head of Editorial Content for Vanity Fair France said that this issue was all about the 64-year-old singer once again becoming an icon. The religious pictures arent the only photos of Madonna that many find disturbing. The one of her wearing a white dress surrounded by baby doll heads and severed limbs is guaranteed to stay in your memory.
One Twitter user points out that the industry is entirely demonic. However, Madonna sarcastically swears that shes a good Catholic. She tweeted once requesting a confession. Her tweet reads, Would it be possible to meet up one day to discuss some important matters? Ive been ex-communicated (sic) 3 times. It doesnt seem fair. Sincerely Madonna.
