Attorney General Pam Bondi has confirmed that the FBI is now involved in investigating a brutal assault that took place in downtown Cincinnati late Friday night into early Saturday morning.
The incident, which involved a predominantly Black group attacking a white man and woman, gained widespread attention after videos of the attack circulated online. The footage was initially shared by Cory Bowman, who is the half-brother of Vice President J.D. Vance and a Republican candidate for Cincinnati mayor.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, the video shows disturbing images of a man being assaulted while on the ground and a woman lying unconscious with blood streaming from her mouth. In response to the incident, Bondi expressed gratitude to Ohio U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno for his assistance in connecting her with the victims.
Moreno had previously criticized Cincinnati's liberal Mayor Aftab Pureval, accusing him of failing to maintain order and protect the city's streets. "Its FAFO time for these derelicts and there is no better person to ensure justice than @AGPamBondi," Moreno stated.
Eric Daugherty of Florida Voice reported that the FBI is actively conducting interviews with suspects and investigating the incident. He emphasized the necessity of federal involvement, noting that authorities only began naming suspects after being prompted by Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon.
Dhillon, who oversees Civil Rights, underscored the applicability of federal hate crime laws to all Americans, stressing that her department would closely monitor the local handling of the case. "Nobody in our great nation should be the victim of such a crime, and where race is a motivation, federal law may apply," she asserted.
Dhillon further emphasized the importance of equal protection under the law, stating, "EVERY American is entitled to the equal protection of our laws. Federal law enforcement is on it and we will ensure that justice is done." She condemned the behavior as "unacceptable and un-American!"
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge provided an update on the situation, announcing that five individuals have been charged in connection with the attack, with additional charges anticipated. This development underscores the commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety, as federal and local authorities collaborate to address this alarming incident.
