Jon Stewart Sounds The Alarm: Is The Daily Show Next After Colbert Gets The Axe?

Written by Published

Jon Stewart, the host of The Daily Show, recently weighed in on CBS's decision not to renew The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, taking a jab at Comedy Central, the network that airs his own program.

During an episode of The Weekly Show podcast, Stewart addressed a listener's inquiry about whether Skydance Media might discontinue The Daily Show following its merger with Paramount.

Thats a good question, Stewart remarked. Unfortunately, we havent heard anything from them. They havent called me and said, Dont get too comfortable in that office, Stewart. But, let me tell you something, Ive been kicked out of s***ier establishments than that. Well land on our feet.

He further elaborated, I honestly dont know. I think Id like to believe that without The Daily Show, I dont know. Comedy Centrals kind of like muzak at this point. I think were the only sort of, like, life that exists on a current basis, other than like South Park.

As reported by Breitbart, CBS characterized the decision to cancel Colbert's show as a financial one, emphasizing that it was unrelated to the show's performance or content. CBS executives lauded Colbert, stating, We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire The Late Show franchise in May of 2026. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that grace late night television. This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the shows performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.

The cancellation of Colbert's show marks a notable transition in the late-night television landscape, as younger audiences increasingly gravitate towards digital platforms over traditional TV programming. In response to the news, President Donald Trump did not hold back his criticism, stating, I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.
