Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken a firm stance against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass following her recent comments concerning ICE agents' use of masks during operations targeting illegal immigrants.
Bass, in a bid to uncover the identities of these agents, announced her office's intention to file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. She further questioned their actions on social media, asking, Who are these masked men going around our city, snatching people off the streets?
According to the Daily Caller, ICE responded on social media, explaining that the agents wear masks due to increased threats and assaults against them and their families, a situation exacerbated by rhetoric similar to Bass'. ICE emphasized that its officers are simply "doing their job and detaining illegal aliens who broke immigration law," and urged Bass to cease "fearmongering for political attention."
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported a significant surge in assaults against ICE officers, with incidents rising nearly 700% this year. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem further revealed that the increase has now reached 830% compared to the previous year.
Mayor Bass has consistently opposed U.S. Customs and immigration policies in California, even filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration over ICE raids in Los Angeles. She has been vocal in her opposition, notably appearing at a July 7 immigration raid at MacArthur Park, where she demanded that government agents "need to leave and they need to leave right now!"
Additionally, the Daily Caller News Foundation uncovered that an official within Bass' administration has connections to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Bass and other California officials have also faced scrutiny for their handling of reconstruction efforts following devastating wildfires that ravaged thousands of homes earlier this year.
