In a tragic incident that has shocked many, Indian authorities have apprehended a Canadian driver in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of 114-year-old Fauja Singh, celebrated as the world's oldest marathon runner.

Amritpal Singh Dhillon, hailing from Canada, was taken into custody on Tuesday following his admission of guilt on Monday.

As reported by Breitbart, Dhillon confessed to Indian journalist Gagandeep Singh that he was driving at an excessive speed and was unable to stop in time when he noticed Singh at the intersection. In a state of panic after the collision, Dhillon fled the scene, according to the report.

Fauja Singh gained international recognition in 2000 when, at the age of 89, he completed a marathon in less than seven hours. His remarkable achievements include carrying the Olympic torch during the 2004 and 2012 Games, symbolizing endurance and perseverance.

The legal consequences Dhillon may face remain uncertain at this juncture. This incident raises questions about road safety and the responsibilities of drivers, particularly in areas with vulnerable pedestrians.
