In a recent appearance on CNN's "News Central," Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) expressed concerns regarding President Donald Trump's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
She asserted that the President is "hiding something" related to the Epstein materials, advocating for the House to swiftly initiate a discharge petition to compel a vote on the release of these files.
As reported by Breitbart, co-host Pamela Brown inquired about Republican calls, including those from Senator Josh Hawley, for Ghislaine Maxwell to testify publicly before Congress. Jayapal responded affirmatively, stating, "Absolutely. We think that the files should be released. We should have testimony from Maxwell."
She further criticized the President for his lack of transparency, noting, "This is something that Trump supporters for years called for and now all of a sudden, the Trump DOJ, Trump himself is refusing to provide the kind of transparency that he was calling for before he knew what was in the files." Her remarks suggest a shift in the President's stance, raising questions about potential motives for withholding the information.
Jayapal emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting a discharge petition from Representatives Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna as a crucial step toward transparency. "The thing that Congress can do right away is there is a discharge petition...that calls for the release of the files that I think is probably the most important thing that we should do right now," she stated. Her comments reflect a broader demand for accountability, irrespective of political affiliations.
Jayapal concluded by reiterating her belief that the President's actions are suspect, adding, "I think he is hiding something and hes just pouring fuel on the fire." The call for transparency underscores a critical examination of the administration's approach to the Epstein case, with implications for public trust and governance.
