In a significant cultural shift, the United States is witnessing a resurgence of faith-based "traditional pop" music, colloquially known as "tradpop."
This resurgence aligns with the mainstreaming of conservative ideals, a trend that has been particularly noticeable since President Donald Trump's sweeping victory in the 2024 elections.
According to Breitbart, Alex Warren's faith-inspired love song, "Ordinary," has climbed to the top of the charts. The song, which references the Lord, holy water, angels, heaven, an altar, and Hallelujah, has held the No. 1 spot in the U.S. for the week and has been a fixture on Billboards Hot 100 for the past 20 weeks.
Warren's lyrics, "The angels up in the clouds are jealous, knowing we found something so heavenly something so out of the ordinary," and "You got me kissing the ground of your sanctuary. Shatter me with your touch, oh, Lord, return me to dust," reflect the song's faith-based theme.
Country music star Morgan Wallen has also made waves, with his album, "Im the Problem," topping the charts for a fifth consecutive week. This achievement breaks his own 2023 record for the most songs ever charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in a single week. Other artists, including Jelly Roll, Thomas Rhett, Benson Boone, and Shaboozey, have also seen their country-pop and folk-style songs rise to the top of Billboards charts.
Semafor, a noted commentator, observed a stark contrast from the previous summer, which was dominated by pop stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Charli XCX. Their "boundary-pushing" style was even embraced by Kamala Harris presidential campaign. However, the summer of 2025 paints a different picture, with a noticeable shift towards more traditional and conservative musicians, as pointed out by pop music commentator and podcaster Sam Murphy.
Murphy noted that many of these artists have strong religious beliefs or backgrounds, which are reflected in their music. He also observed that veteran pop stars have struggled to make an impact, citing Lady Gagas 2025 studio album, Mayhem, as an example. Despite the album's singles, "Abracadabra" and "Disease," failing to break into the Top 10, Gaga's new song, "Die with a Smile," has been a huge success. Murphy attributes this to the song's traditional ballad style, featuring Bruno Mars, a safe radio choice, and its vintage sound.
Murphy also linked the cultural shift in music to the political landscape, stating, "Obviously, at the end of 2024, we shift into a conservative government, and so, it makes sense that the culture begins to reflect the time." He suggested that the cultural pendulum is swinging back towards conservatism after being pushed too far in the opposite direction.
The rise of Warren's "Ordinary" coincides with the growing online trend of "tradwife," a movement embraced by younger conservatives seeking a return to traditional values, particularly regarding marriage and family.
Semafor noted this trend, which was also highlighted by Breitbart News in their coverage of Turning Point USAs annual Young Womens Leadership Summit. Gen Z conservatives at the summit expressed their desire to live a traditional life, free from government control, and to foster strong nuclear families that love their country.
In this evolving cultural landscape, it's clear that a conservative shift is taking place, not just in politics, but also in the music industry. This shift, reflected in the rise of faith-based "tradpop" music and the "tradwife" movement, is a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional values and the desire for a return to them.
